Background
Jake grew up in Sacramento, raised by his father (a trial lawyer) and mother (a dedicated advocate for the homeless and mentally ill). He obtained a bachelor’s in history from the University of California, Santa Cruz, where he played NCAA basketball and served in student government. Following graduation, Jake successfully acted as the general manager of two flourishing Santa Cruz restaurants, at one point the direct manager of over 75 employees. He spent some time in private business before obtaining his law degree from the University of Pacific McGeorge School of law. While at McGeorge, Jake studied international comparative law in Salzburg, Austria under retired Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy. He also worked as a certified legal intern for Legal Services of Northern California, and both the Sacramento and Yolo County public defenders’ offices.
Following law school, Jake acted as lead plaintiff’s counsel in complex civil litigation concerning construction defects and real estate. In 2011, Jake moved back to Monterey Bay where he practiced personal injury and business law and was a member of Consumer Advocates of California (CAOC). He also has served as an attorney for the United States Small Business Administration, where he practiced real estate and securities transactional law assisting businesses and homeowners following declared natural disasters.
The light of Jake’s life is his young son, whom he has the pleasure of coaching in Toro Park little league. Jake supports breast cancer awareness and research, as the disease tragically took his wife at a young age. He is also a supporter of the Monterey County SPCA and Loaves and Fishes. In his spare time Jake enjoys hiking and is a long-time member of the “Hooping for Christ” group at Cypress Church in Salinas.
